I DID IT

If you were wondering if I made it or not. I DID!

And I am still ALIVE....even though I can barely walk!

I completed my first Half-Marathon on Saturday, April 18th.
My official time was 2 hours & 17 minutes.

My goal was 2 hours, but that goal was shot at about mile 3 when my ankle started to really hurt. While I was training about 2 weeks ago trying to run 12 miles, my ankle, out of nowhere, just started hurting at about mile 8. I called Ike from my trusty cell phone, and he came to the rescue as I couldn't even walk on it. I gave it a break for a few days, and was able to run just fine on it for the shorter runs leading up to the big race.

Anyone who talked to me about this race knows how nervous I was. I had no idea what to expect with my ankle. I knew I could totally do this, so it is frustrating to train so hard and have something like this get in your way. I was hoping I could get to maybe about 8 miles without any pain......so imagine my HUGE disappointment when mile 3 came along and I was already in tons of pain! I was so MAD and couldn't help but shed a few tears!

I was able to work through the pain, with some major help from above! I tried to land on my foot differently and change my entire form, and this seemed to lessen the pain and get me through a few miles, and then I would have to do this again once the pain became stronger again. My entire body was so tired from doing this, and I can totally feel it now. My left knee, and my entire right leg are so sore from trying to compensate for my ankle. Also- no one warned me of the after pain and discomfort my digestive system would go through.....but I won't go into detail about that!

Today I can say that is was totally WORTH IT! I am so glad I did this, and still can't believe I was able to finish this race....even though it was one of the hardest things I have ever done.

There were so many people there supporting their families and friends.....but when you see your very own friends or family while you are running it makes you feel light and fluffy all over. It was like I had just begun the race and had no pain and tons of energy.

A few of my cute friends found me while I was running past Liberty Park at mile 8 or 9, and cheered me on and had cute signs. I don't think I have ever felt so special in my life! It gave me the energy I needed to finish those last few miles.

What an experience!

Will I ever do this again?
I hope I can......someday.....

Let's get rid of this limp first!!!

CONGRATULATIONS! That is an awesome accomplishment! Way to go. My sister ran a marathon last summer and she told me all about the digestive business... pretty sure it scared me out of running any great distance! It's probably better you didn't know! Congrats again. You are awesome.

Great pictures Jana. I wanted to stay and watch you finish, but at the same time, I was just absolutely dead tired and wanted to go home. I chose home, but I am glad you posted pictures. You look a lot happier at the finish than I did.

That's so rad! I know for sure I couldn't have done that... especially on a bad ankle! I hope you get feeling better! Thanks again for coming up to our house after all that :)

Good job, Jana! You are so awesome! I wish I could have been there to cheer you on. I was thinking about you here in Laramie, so hopefully you at least felt my long-distant cheers. You've inspired me to want to run a race, but I'm way to scared to try a half-marathon. I mean...I can't even run a mile now. But Curtis and I have talked about preparing for a 5K. We'll see. I'm so proud of you though and I think you are just plain awesome!! Also, you look so good. I run 10 minutes on the treadmill and look like crap. You just ran over 2 hours and look amazing.

Yes, you are truly an inspiration!! I am glad you finally posted about this! You deserve to be congratulated! I am glad that we were there to witness your race, and to help you get through it! I know how special I felt when you came to my concert, so I am glad that I was able to support you like you always support me! Thanks for being such a good friend! I don't know what I would do without ya! Oh, and I hope you get back to walking normal again...but in the mean time, I will just chuckle about it! You are too cute! Again, way to go! Now on to training for a 5K...which is nothing compared to what you just did, but I have to start somewhere right?
